Our approach

We knew from last time that a huge part of the pre-production on a project like this would be the logistics of filming multiple locations and a moving vehicle (with film crew running around it). A big part of this was travel logistics, sorting out a route around the locations, calculating driving time and applying for drone permissions. We learned the hard way that trying to get access to the Long Walk with an EV would be an issue so we went back to the drawing board and focused on locations the public has access to and also that we could drive a massive electric waste vehicle to. Another thing we had to consider was incorporating some pick-up spots where we could film the driver doing the waste collections, so pre-production on a project like this was hefty. Luckily, the team at Grundon were super helpful and knew exactly where they wanted to show the EV.

With the biggest risk assessment known to man completed, we set off to begin capturing the EV across the south of England. The filming took place over 2 days, one day in the center of London (the one-way routes across certain bridges made things fun) and one day traveling around Windsor and Slough, with a stop off at Legoland. We bonded with Steve our driver for the day and got to meet some of the other lovely drivers at the Depot while we grabbed some final close-up shots of the EV at the end of the day.

Once we got back to the studio it was time to start piecing together all the footage we had captured over the two days and adding in the titling, motion graphics and voice-over.

These projects are super involved and a great chance for all of the team to work together, which, despite there being only 5 of us, doesn’t happen as often as you’d think.
